Welcome to The OD Collective

Designing organisations future back

Welcome to The OD Collective

At The OD Collective, we know that re-designing organisations and leading change is challenging and sometimes overwhelming.

But we believe there’s a better way.

We’ve spent decades working alongside leaders, supporting them to navigate complexity, improve performance and build organisations that thrive. And through it all, we’ve learned this:

  • Sustainable change doesn’t come from top-down consultancy reports or quick fixes.

  • Your people hold the wisdom to create lasting change, if you give them the space and support to do so.

  • The best way to build a thriving organisation is to design ‘future back’ starting with where you want to be, then building the right structures, processes, and capabilities to get there.

We know leaders are under constant pressure, balancing day-to-day demands with long-term ambitions. That's why our work is practical, thoughtful, and always grounded in the realities leaders face.

We don’t believe in change for change’s sake: we believe in change that sticks.

Introducing our
OD Circle Line model

Our Circle Line Methodology: A Proven Approach for Lasting Change

At the heart of our work is our tried-and-tested Circle Line Methodology, a practical, structured approach that helps leaders think holistically about their organisation.

The Circle Line is designed to guide you through eight key stages of organisation design, ensuring every element, from strategy to structure to culture, aligns with your ambitions for the future.

By following this sequence, you’ll avoid common pitfalls like rushed restructures, fragmented changes, or misaligned teams. Instead, you'll build an organisation that’s clear, connected, and built to last.

The stages include Purpose & Ambition, Outcomes & Benefits, Future Work, Processes, Structure, Capacity & Capability, Rules of engagement, and Measures. The chart is divided into internal and external aspects, with strategic and tactical focuses.

10 things we wish we'd known earlier in our careers about organisation design

We know that leading a redesign can be a lonely job. You're making calls that move people's work, their influence and their prospects, and there's often nobody to compare notes with.

So we wrote down the ten things we wish we'd known earlier. What changes when you change accountabilities. When to bring people in, and when to move fast.

What to protect when performance dips. How much of the design to leave for the teams who'll live in it.

Each lesson ends with a question to ask yourself. It takes ten minutes to read, and it also introduces our Circle Line method, the eight-step process we teach at The OD School.
